most places now have a law saying smoking in public buildings is illegal. here they took that law and expanded it so that smoking is now illegal 20 feet within the entrence of a public building. The reason for these laws are because they know second hand smoke can cause problems for people.

Music - the only time I have had my walkman and headphones taken it was when I was on suicidal precautions. I was allowed to have them during the day but not at night. most times if the person has headphones music is allowed in hospitals. You might try taking headphones with your walkman or portable boombox.

Cafeine I have never had that forbidden to me. When soda isnt listed on the meal menus I write in the kind I want and they send it up with my meal. and throughout hospitals there are vending machines with various brands of soda in them. Anyone that I know that could not have soda with cafeine was because they were on a special diet or medication where they could not have it due to side efffects or stomach problems.

Sugar is allowed unless the person is on a diabetic diet. hospital food is made bland but I write on the meal menu when I would like them to send sugar packets up with coffee and other items that may need sweetening. and they did send it up with my meals.
