I also believe that the extra awareness is a combination of senses and lot's of practice. When I was older and would return from late night work, I could smell if my dad was up or in bed at the door as he always had a smoke before bed, also the level of drinking before hand.

I am now learning that I am a highly sensitive person, and after a life time of being told that I was defective- too sensitive, toughen up, and almost as long blocking are feelings, and early trama, I have very high anxiety, always looking for plan A. B. C. so there were no surprises. Living a very flat cold life, trying to avoid emotions.
My T has labeled this avoidence. As a surprise can be devastating as I am just learning coping skills.

Yes I have a bit of natural intuitiveness with lot's of practice. And at times when I have ignored it did not go well. My last experience with intuition was in Group Therapy, the team psychologist taught mindfulness, and later when I had the chance to work with the T, I knew it would be a good fit. And I was right.

A caution on making intuition more than it is as sometimes it can be wishfull thinking and imaginary, been there as well.
