I picked up a minimum wage retail Christmas job in late October. They had the temporary help competing for who would 'get' to stay, and I didn't make the cut. Then they told me that they were going to keep me anyway. Ever since then, every week it's always 'do better at this or you are all fired' (not just me, everyone).

So now, like, every single day, someone calls or texts or accosts me trying to give away their hours or switch shifts with me. Almost every time I work, someone doesn't show up or shows up way late.

I just got another text and I don't even have texting on my wireless plan, so if I respond I have to pay for it. I'm 57. Most of the other clerks are 20ish or younger. Not that that matters, but I think it's part of it.

I wish I could let this job go. I need to get out, I need the money, but in so many ways it is so frustrating. It's always like this: "We'd rather have somebody better than you, but no one shows up."

Not exactly flattering! lol!

Thanks for letting me vent.

PS--After I got out of the hospital I told my manager I didn't want to work more than 15 hours per week and I'm sticking to it. I have to put some kind of limits on this or they'll run all over me and it's totally go-nowhere. It's not like I'll get rich or get promoted, I'll just get worn out.
