Thanks for all your advice I don't believe in the 2012 stuff, just occasionally find myself wishing it were so. Yesterday was one of those days.

All the antidepressants raise the blood sugar level, my constant bugaboo. So while on the one hand I have to do without them, on the other I've been diabetic for six years and have not lost any nerve sensation or developed any retinopathy. It's a trade-off I have to make, very important to me because I watched my Dad's decline from diabetes. He wasn't willing to sacrifice anything, not even a doughnut.

I appreciate all the time and concern evidenced in your note.

Sorry to hear about your current struggles with your health in addition to your financial / medical conundrum.

Is there any local organization which may be able to assist you in receiving treatment for your eyes? I'm not sure as to how old you may or may not be, but I would think that if you are in the 50+ category, there *should* be some type of service available to assist people that fall within that age range. Possibly a local community center / faith-based endorsed group (via a house of worship) / or welfare assistance program.

Also, are you currently taking any medications to help relive some of your depressive symptoms? Or if you are, and the cost is either prohibitive or bearing a heavy burden upon your monthly finances, then there are what is known as "Patient Assistance Programs" (a.k.a. "P.A.P." that are underwritten by the pharmaceutical companies themselves.

Here is a website link for RxAssist which allows the user to type in any drug name and verify if the company responsible for producing it has a P.A.P. program available to make it available either at low or no cost to the patient:

Also, in concluding here, disregard what the doomsayers are saying about the so called 2012 Mayan calendar "prophecies" as they are nothing more than another false bit of hype dreamt up by the New Age movement. Remember all the doom and gloom that was forcasted to occur back in the 1999 lead up to 2000? The whole Y2K business? People stockpiling food, weapons, water, converting their currency to gold coinage, etc.

Not gonna happen. Just fabrication and hype.

From the Wikipedia entry on the "2012 Phenomenon":

"A New Age interpretation of this transition posits that during this time Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era.end of the world or a similar catastrophe. Scenarios posited for the end of the world include the Earth's collision with a passing planet (often referred to as "Nibiru") or black hole, or the arrival of the next solar maximum."

"Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe. Scenarios posited for the end of the world include the Earth's collision with a passing planet (often referred to as "Nibiru") or black hole, or the arrival of the next solar maximum."

"Scholars from various disciplines have dismissed the idea of catastrophe in 2012. Mainstream Mayanist scholars state that predictions of impending doom are not found in any of the existing classic Maya accounts, and that the idea that the Long Count calendar "ends" in 2012 misrepresents Maya history. The modern Maya do not consider the date significant, and the classical sources on the subject are scarce and contradictory, suggesting that there was little if any universal agreement among them about what, if anything, the date might mean."

"Additionally, astronomers and other scientists have rejected the apocalyptic forecasts as pseudoscience, stating that the anticipated events are contradicted by simple astronomical observations. NASA has compared fears about 2012 with those about the approaching millennium in the late 1990s, suggesting that an adequate analysis should preclude fears of disaster. None of the proposed alignments or formulas have been accepted by mainstream scholarship."

Take care and be well,
