I'm sorry that something so stressful is happening. What a scare! I know you were just as upset as anyone else involved, but I suspect that like somebody already said, they had enough going on with their own emotions that they just couldn't deal.

For whatever reason, simple transactions such as offering to help get so darned muddled up with family. If your husband had offered to babysit for someone in the community, there would not be so much attached to that offer and how the other person receives it. Put it to family, though, and it becomes a very big messed up deal, often.
