Seems my memory access is diminished or less than reliable after a traumatic event, and then through the grief and/or processing what had happened. Regrettably, I've been through more than a few horrifying events, but I seem to recover over time, as the memories I access are the same (at least I believe they are), and my brain goes back to the functional level where I was beforehand. I've even exceeded those expectations by going to grad school and engaging in creative pursuits, both of which put me in touch with aspects of my intellect that may have been neglected, by me, of course.
I don't know how helpful this is; simply wanted to offer another viewpoint.
