Looking for work is VERY hard on your self-esteem. Even though the rejection isn't personal, it feels personal. Plus, after awhile people start offering all this free advice that isn't usually helpful. What would be helpful would be offering a connection that leads to a job, but I have this sense there really aren't many jobs.

I've literally applied for hundreds of jobs over the past several months. In December I got a part-time minimum wage retail job and they threaten to fire me all the time for not selling more (or any) store credit cards. I'm a hard worker and very reliable but not so great at pushing bad credit on people. Most weeks I don't even clear $100, but at least it's something. (I have two degrees, a BA and a Master's--and 30 years of experience, but actually I think that all hurts me more than it helps, sad to say.)

So try to be good to yourself. (Easier said than done!) Try retail maybe while you're looking for something better? Retail and fast food usually always have openings but it's hard and abysmally low paid.

Hang in there.
Thanks for this!
