I have to agree with Okami ~ I'm a mother and if it was me, I'd certainly have the phone near me! If my partner didn't like it, well that's just too bad!!  My kids come first - sorry.
I don't know what the big deal was ~ it's not like you won't ever have time again, and when you have kids you have to expect interruptions. Perhaps she DOESN'T have kids and doesn't understand - i don't know. But if she's going to hang around you, she'd better get used to it.  Kids come first.
