Many people who take drugs are suffering from pre-existing mental health problems that cause them to self medicate. Taking away their access to welfare is hardly going to make their situation any eaiser, and would be detrimental to society. Imagine if people who didn't make it onto the list of the "deserving poor" ended up flooding the streets. How exactly would that benefit society? It would in fact make matters much worse. There's a reason we no longer abide by Victorian ideas of morality... those ideas didn't work. Time to show a bit of compassion.
