Drug addicts usually do not do drugs merely for "fun", but rathers as form of escapism. How are your problems any more worthy than theirs?

Reducing "defense" expenses would save lot of money for example. Keeping one ICMB or one fighter jet functional costs money that could help those in need.
Why do people always look in the lowest places to save money anyways? Take it from the poor so it can be thrown onto gay-bomb project or on hookers for senators?
