reapply and don't let the time lapse for when you can appeal your decision. This way if you get approved it will go back to date of application and you will be owed back money. Even though you may not have enough quarters to get social security disability you can still qualify for SSI which is state funded. That simply means although Social Security will not be funding it completely, the state you live in will be. You will probably also be entitled to food stamps, and full medicaid to pay for your prescriptions and medical expenses.
Don't give up yet but realize that the check you get if approved will not be a whole lot.
I retired for the State of Florida doing these kind of applications about six years ago so I have some knowledge of the process although each state is different.
Good luck and keep fighting if you feel you are unable to work.
