I went to my first Women for Sobriety Meeting last night. It was good. It was a tiny meeting - there were only 6 people there, they really need to work on promotion.
I liked it. I like the premise that we start drinking for a reason, and then progress into addiction, that the only solution to addiction is total abstinance and you are 100% responsible for managing your recovery. It fits for me better than the reliance on a higher power.
I did find the statement of affirmations felt a little forced, but I've never liked affirmations and find them difficult to do, but I'm sure I'll get comfortable with it.
They encourage cross talk and offering suggestions, which I actually liked as the group was really able to help a couple of the women there with really practical advice.
I've ordered a bunch of their literature, and signed up for their chat rooms.
I'm not giving up on AA becuase I find it usefull in its own way, and I need more than one meeting a week. So I'm probably going to do both for awhile.
