For me and pretty much everyone else I've talked to, fighting against thoughts and feelings seems to bring them on more and keep them around longer. I'd think that hurting yourself would stir up even more thoughts that you'd then want to react to.
A good while ago, I posted something by Alan Watts
here. I'd be interested in your take on it, if you're willing to read it.
