I'm sorry this happened. I can see why you are angry. This guy meant a lot to your BF and his family and then he just left. My father basically did the same thing to me and my brothers and my friend's father did this to her and her brother too. I think it is selfish on his part although he may not think it is. He may think he is trying to protect you guys from something. I'm sure he feels some kind of regret, but it is still a sucky thing to do. I hope you, your BF, and his family get through this ok.
