Thanks Bethy. I agree with everything that you said.
I guess it's also important to try to gauge the timing. I think my big mistake is not recognizing when someone is SO hurt that they can't deal with even the most gentle differing perspective, even if made in the spirit of trying to soothe what seems to be the obvious issue. A differing perspective can be the straw that breaks the camel's back, no matter how strong that person normally is.
Sad when it happens, and I am learning that honesty is not the best policy unto itself. Honesty + TIMING have to go hand-in-hand.
