It is kind of crazy how we keep on riding no matter but it's the wonderful feel of being IN the saddle that keeps me going along with the bond with my horse. The lady whose horse I was riding has actually broken her back on a fall & had a bad broken wrist that needed surgery.....yes, there can definitely be serious injuries.....but we keep going for some reason. Don't know how it relates to being a risk taker in the first place????
I haven't ridden since I got back on that day however & probably won't again until I get my pain medication situation for my migraines straightened out & they are back available in the pharmacy. It's just another good reason for allowing my body to recover before riding again instead of pushing it.
It's still very sore especially by the end of the day of when I really try to do any major activity. Been laying in bed & sleeping whenever I doze off.....helps control the soreness also.
I have lost count of the number of falls I have had actually. Only 2 serious ones. One I fractured my hip & didn't know it & it didn't show up in the xray in the ER that night....but an xray & bone scan showed it up a month later. The other was just a concussion & sore shoulder. My horse was injured worse than I was on that fall, so wasn't riding for a long time after that.
My first fall was back in college in my equitation class.....horse was figiting....instructor said...use your crop.....over my horses ears I flew. Almost 30 years later needed a neck fusion because of that....but nothing bothered me at the time...never knew I had whiplash from it.
