Given the auspices of having two job offers in the same time frame? Which one would you choose?
A. Permanent with benefits, odd vacation accumulation albiet maybe negotiable. Basically no paid vacation the first year, but a faster accumulation schedule than normal. Basically a week gained for each year of service. The job offers a 6 percent increase over your previous employers. You're also required to travel 25 percent of the time, spending a week at Corporate vs. being at home. The commute time is 30 minutes and a casual environment. Plus, great people fit almost utopia. But noticed a few minor fleas around the edge of utopia. Minus, smaller environment in which to apply one's craft, but a growing company.
B. Contract to potential hire, renewable each year. Could go on for years. The job offers a 90.95 percent increase over one's previous salary. No benefits, no paid but takeable vacation, with enough margin to easily provide one's own. Travel is occassionally up to 10 percent to cities where one knows friends or family. The commute is 30 minutes and a casual environment. Plus, there are problems and goals, but a good fit with the manager and co-workers. They've been up front in pointing out the problems and goals, both environmental and work task. Plus, ground floor opportunity to help evolve existing structures into a more centralized unit. Growing and larger company.
Really interested in learning how others would make the choice. On what basis? If there are elements in making a choice not described about, that someone feels/thinks is important. Please let me know, and I'll provide more information that might help in reaching a decision for the hypothetical scenario. *wink wink*
