Abby,

I hope it helps. Pretty much any depression recovery program or book can work if you really apply it and make changes in your life, but saying it is a lot easier than doing it. It makes a huge difference to have someone supporting you and encouraging you, and who will remind you to pick yourself up and keep trying even when you don't feel like it.

When I found that website (less than two months ago) I was so depressed and so negative that I wasn't in a position to be able to accept how positive it was. But I could still recognize that the site had value, and I used the tests there. Now, on-line depression tests can be helpful as a guide and for measuring how your mood compares from time to time, but I have at times found that I have obsessed about them and probably made myself worse too, so be careful about that.

Understanding and dealing with your feelings is really important. Medication can make you feel not so bad, but it doesn't fix the root of the problem. The author of that website said you're still in the pit, but you don't mind as much. Someone else has told me about medication that things still bother you but you just don't care. You indicated that at least for now you are not going to be using medication. All I've ever used as far as medication is St. John's Wort. That's okay, but you need to be addressing the problem and learning to overcome it.

I wish you all the best, and hope that you will keep letting us know how you are doing, and don't hesitate to let us know when you need any help or support.

Wendy
