Hi Jan ~ I'm sorry this has happened, but I don't blame you for saying something about the fighting ~ that gets mighty annoying to have to listen to that all the time! 
Your poor cat wouldn't like it, but perhaps you'd better get a litter pan and keep him inside for awhile til things calm down. I think I would. He'll probably protest LOUDLY, but that's better than having him poisoned or worse. Cats learn quickly how to use the litter pan, so that wouldn't be a problem. Just take his paw and make him "dig" in it. He'll get the picture. lol
