Is there a social services hot line in your area that you can call and get info on what all is available? Will the fact that you might end up homeless move you up on the housing list wait at all?

Because of both mental and physical illness I am not working either. I manage to just barely get by with a combo of SSI, food stamps, medical, and some housing assistance. Of course, this year my share of the rent went way up and the food stamps went down, but I am still able to make it. Did take me several years and a lot of paper work of course to get to this point.

I suggest that you work on gathering records for SSI no matter what, might as well go through the process, work on your application.
