just had to pop in to remark, ygrec. for those of us in AA we need to basically change many things about ourselves. weeding out the good-"assets"-from the bad-"liabilities"-and striving to change the bad to good. by following the 12 steps of recovery that "terrible attraction" doesn't exist anymore like it once did. we are on another track. knowing that alcohol for us isn't a "just reward". the longer we stay sober the easier it gets. but vigilence is the key to never return to that hell on earth. if we have a grateful heart for our sobriety, continue to practice abstinence, and help the newcomer our focus changes from a compulsion and attraction to freedom.
