It's certainly nothing one has happy butterflies about. Only dentist ranks worse for me.
If you haven't, make sure you get a gyno you are comfortable with. I have one who is very sensitive and gentle and basically babbles about everything else during the appointment. I don't feel so 'looked at'. The moment she enters the door, she starts talking, only to pause a little when she warns what she's going to do and to ask if I am Ok. That helps not feeling so exposed and gives me a chance to say if something is too much.
I can't believe too many people actually enjoy going, so you are not alone. Try not to think about it even though it's hard. It's one of the things where thinking and preparing won't make it any better.
