This area has an entirely different perspective. People putting out poison or antifreeze for cats is very common and not illegal. Within the village limits it is illegal to shoot cats on your property (only because firing a weapon is illegal except at places like the shooting range) however in the township it is perfectly legal to shoot your neighbor’s cat. Surprisingly it is legal for people to shoot your cat with a BB or pellet gun if the cat comes onto their property. This is not considered animal cruelty because cats are looked upon as a rodent problem.
I try to see all sides of an issue. I can understand that my neighbors do not want my pets in their yard. I HAVE animals but it irritates me to no end that neighbors let their dogs go to the bathroom in my yard. I had to remove my flower bed and replace it with a rock garden because cats that do not belong to me used it as a litter box. But there are humane ways of dealing with these issues.
I’m sorry that your neighbors are not willing to deal with this like civilized human beings. I wish that I had a suggestion for keeping your cats out of their yard but I haven’t figured one out yet myself. I’ve taken in orphaned cats that I’ve bottle fed and fixed right away at 6 months and they STILL want to go outside. The last cat we had wore a neon green collar with a bell. The kid that shot her KNEW she was a pet not a feral cat, but shot her anyway. The police told me "if you don't want your cat hurt, keep her on your own property." There is now a leash law for cats here. How do you leash train a cat for crying out loud?

I've been making efforts to keep Kitty inside. He is wild after being in for very long, knocking over lamps, etc. He's very sweet, gentle and friendly...unafraid and will let anyone pet him. I was pondering how it would go to try walking him on a leash.

Thankfully, I have a great neighbor who is home all day, loves Kitty, and keeps him inside while I'm gone!
The issues with this bad neighbor are not just pet-related. She has called the town almost every week since I moved here (4 years ago), because when it rains water runs downhill from my yard to hers. I have put in drainage ditches, and spent a lot of money. Neighbors tell me she has driven off everyone who has lived in my house. On the issue of the water, hey...water runs downhill onto MY property from the people above me...I have no problem with this, and have never complained to anyone about it.
So...anyway, an interesting thing happened after I exploded with the witchy neighbor. That night, though I was upset immediately after it, I went to bed and slept like a log!

I hadn't slept well for over a week, waking up every hour each night and unable to go back to sleep!
