I don't have the words that can even express the love I have for all of my babies. I have learned more about how to care for wounds, illnesses, & anything that can possibly happen to any animal.
As for small animals, I have become an expert at getting a pill down their throat & holding the mouth shut, & stroking the throat until they swallowI have even learned how to give the subqutanieous shots & don't even get a squeel out of them. I have also learned how to do the same with my horses along with the IM shots. I have had the best vets to teach me their tricks.
I have also learned how to identify what certain illnesses are by how the my baby is acting. I am planning on taking some courses to help me with this, but practical, daily experience is the best.
I think that collic with the horses is the hardest. They have to be kept walking & all they want to do is go down on the ground & roll which is the worst thing they can do. The intestines rupruring is what kills them & there are things that can be given to them that can help but if they haven't improved within 15 minutes, the vet needs to be called & hopefully one will be available. We have lost several horses to collic at the ranch & I wasn't there at the time, but I have helped with one horse that was collicing & she did get through it but it was so tough to go through.
I never had even a tiny idea of how complex it was to care for animals but now am fully aware of it & still wouldn't change having my babies for anything.......love is stronger than anything.
