I'm 19 years old and I am getting a little annoyed with people treated me like I am younger than I am. My peers, for example, they treat me like a child or like they have some sort of maturity advantage on me.

I don't really get it. I'm not immature. I may talk fast, change subjects a lot, and make people laugh, but I know when it is time to be serious.

For example...

1) I compose music, and when I get a 12 person vocal ensemble together they seem to want to joke around and think I'm OK with it. I'm not.

2) I like to joke, but sometimes it gets old. Like making fun of me for talking too fast or being scatterbrained. It's frustrating.

3) I'm really smart. I've always been smart. I'm in the honors program at my college, in the freshman honors society, and on the dean's list. And when people have some sort of problem that I think the answer or solution is common sense, they are like "wow you're smart" and they always sound so surprised. Even the people who have known me for a long time.

Yes I'm smart. I know how to think, but why is that a surprise? Do they think Why do they think I'm not? I may zone out and not pay much attention during class, but I always make A's anyway, because I can figure things out. I just don't get what makes me seem dumb or immature to them.
