Sunshine baskets are nice. They contain a wrapped gift for each day he is in hospital or away from home, even while he is home. The gifts need not be expensive just fun, distracting types. For example, day one, he might open up a coloring book and crayons (if he likes to color), day two might be a favorite cologne, day three could contain a barrel of monkeys, etc. Things you guys did as children to evoke memories of pleasant times, silly things to bring a smile, even if he would not actually play with it.
