I am diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. One of the 5 meds ordered for me is Ritalin, which the pdoc said he was ordering to help me feel less depressed during the day.

I reported to my pdoc that I have a tendency to perseverate at what I am doing. (I become engrossed in something, and then I have difficulty moving on to something else.) I brought this up because that tendency seems to be increased since I've been taking the Ritalin. Sometimes the result is good. If I get up and start something constructive after taking the Ritalin, I'm more apt to stay with it. (Since becoming very depressed it is hard to sustain effort.) Sometimes the result is not so good. If I start daydreaming after taking Ritalin, I can spend 3 hours just doing that, which feels enjoyable, but then I neglect responsibilities.

It was the pdoc who remarked that he suspected that what I call "perseveration," sounds to him like compulsiveness. He then brought up the criteria on his computer and asked me to identify which applied to me. Some did and some didn't. I did that and he seemed to think I met the criteria for whatever it was. I forget what exactly the condition was. I don't know if it was OCD, or OCPD, or what.
