Ummm... I'm not so sure about that. There are some people that you just can't get next to because they're always angry or spiteful. Those kind of people MAY have family that love them, but I'll bet they don't have anyone else!

There are plenty of people in my life that I am indifferent towards or are indifferent towards me that can't hurt me, at least, not emotionally, like my ex husband. I still see him and talk to him at the grandkids' birthday parties but because I don't care what he thinks of me or what I do, he can critize me all he wants and it doesn't hurt. He can call me the names he used to call me when we were married and now I would just laugh.

I also have acquaintances whose opinion doesn't matter one iota to me, so they can rag on me all they want and it's not going to hurt me.

Now, what my kids and my husband think of me, say to me, do to me, if it's not nice, THAT HURTS because I love them and I care what they think.
