Yes, your doctor should be in control here and should extend your leave if you're not ready to go back. That's the way it is done at most larger businesses. If you are in a small mom-pop-type operation, it might be different. And the others are right--they won't want you back if you are unable to function normally. They want to know they can count on you, whatever your job is. And leaves happen, and are extended all the time. It's a big deal for you, maybe your first, but happens all the time with employers. Leaves for pregnancy, berievement, illness, surgery, lots of things. Now even dads can take time off for new babies!
