elmarko imo it is not worth you suffering just because of someone else's opinion. if you can't convince your mom that you need help then seek it on your own. if she's willing maybe the doc can talk to her and explain the illness, most people really don't understand it.
but if she is not willing to learn then advocate for yourself. knowing that you need help is the first and most important and bravest step toward getting better. if the previous med did not work out for you the doctor should have alternatives. everyone reacts very differently to each med but there are lots of alternatives and it is up to you and your doctor to stick with it to find something that works well for you with no or few side effects.
don't give up. it is a valid fear concerning your families expectations, but this is not something you are "chosing" to put them through and in the long run no getting treatment will cause more problems for you and for them. even if they never "get it" it is your right to get help toward a better life for yourself which will benefit them as well in the long run.
if your family won't be responsive try to find a support group locally, they are usually free and you can talk with people who have the same problems you do, you'll see you are not alone and that lots of people have trouble getting friends or family members to understand. having the support of others who "understand" is a big help. likewise keep posting here for the same reason.
