I would say that it's more anxiety than anything else. I used to do that too, while laying in bed. I'd get myself so worked up over the silliest things!! And like you said, usually everything turned out just fine!
I once thought "what's the worst that could happen?" And each time I answered that question, I couldn't think of anything worse than all the worrying I'd been doing! LOL So I figured, why worry about it at all? It took some practice & getting used to the idea, but i finally quit worrying & getting so anxious over stuff. All of it was out of my control anyway ~ worrying couldn't change anything.
