It's fine to have reasonable expectations - for example the 'expectation to be treated with respect'. I do agree if we lower our expectations of others, then we won't get disappointed in them if they don't follow through. Of course you don't want to take this to the extreme, where people will walk all over you. It's a healthy balance, but I've found lowering my expectations in certain areas to be very helpful.
