I think that this person was playing games with you, just like so many bosses do with their employees. It's a power thing IMHO.

I used to take stuff like this home with me, and it's no good for us. Wish I had the answer, but I just have empathy with you.

It sounds like you are doing some good work where you are, and that's what really matters IMHO.

When I was teaching the managers used to think that I worked for them, but I didn't, I worked for the students, not for the managers.
