And it is one of the reasons why they hesitate on performing surgery on the elderly.

I had to witness seeing my mother struggle for months being totally confused.

I also had such a hard time in my own recovery. It was especially hard for me because I had two surgeries withing 10 days. I was also on the table for a long time, hours during my life saving surgery. I had a tube down my throat and I can no longer sing because of it, but at least I can talk. And I never realized that when you are opened up, air gets trapped in the body and it too is very painful.

No, I had to find out later, and they should have prepared us for how my mother was going to behave after her surgery. Some can be extremely hostile.

I don't know if you had surgery or your father did, but it does take time, anethesia stays in the system for months.

No. I had that procedure done last Monday. Was under no longer than a half hour they told me. They used the same stuff that killed Michael Jackson. Propofol. But I gotta tell ya, the rest of the week I was a mess! All over the place... I wondered if that had something to do with it... I mean "stuuf happens" & I've gotten a little better at dealing with it - but not last week! "Stuff" continued to happen but the coping skills were nowhere to be found!! And I wasn't sure why. Maybe? I'll ask my T on Thursday. Thanks for the info!! Doesn't hurt to know this stuff!
