I had a stay-in-bed-and-feel-sorry-for-myself weekend, so I turned
my cell phone ringer off and have left it off today as well. I just
woke up from a nap and found a new message.

I am filing for disability, state insurance, etc, as I have a chronic illness and no chance of going back to work anytime soon. The hospital case worker called. I had an appointment with her Jan.
31. She needed proof of my last paycheck, and my last two bank
statements. A branch of my bank is literally right down the hall
from her office. On my way there, I called my HR person, told her
what I needed, and got it faxed. I brought the bank statements back
to the worker's office and left them for her.

Today is Feb. 13. This is what, 2 weeks later? She just called to
say that SHE CAN'T PROCESS ANYTHING BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T HAVE MY
SAVINGS ACCOUNT STATEMENT. No mind that the savings account in
question has been CLOSED for a month. No, she wants statements from
November, December and January.

So you realize what this means, of course -- NOTHING has been
processed -- AGAIN -- and I'm still screwed out of my benefits that
I should have had at least a couple of weeks ago. I have doctors who
are not getting paid, meds I can't pay for, etc. And it's all
because of this incompetent ******. Does she not understand I *NEED*
this stuff TO LIVE ON? What the hell takes ANYBODY two weeks to
figure out they're missing, if they're actually WORKING? And before
you jump to her defense and say she's probably got a zillion cases,
I *saw* the active cases on her bookshelf when I was there. She has
FIVE. Not including mine.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH!

Anybody got any POSITIVE social service worker stories that will make me feel better?

Candy
