I was outside doing yard work (the first time now that the fracture in my back is healed). Three of my dogs were out with me, just running around the yard.......

Leo decided to wander off into the field next to my house where the grass had been mowed by a friends tractor. He started pouncing up & down & biting at something. I knew he was after some small animal...but wasn't sure what I was going to find. I ran over to where he was & just as I got there, he yiped & limped away on 3 legs. I headed to where he had been & there was a cute little mole. Leo still wasn't wanting to leave it alone even after it bit his foot......

I picked it up by it's little tail & the blind little thing just hang there squirming around a bit.....I was curious to see just how bit it's mouth could possibly be, knowing that they eat bugs, I knew they had a mouth & teeth, but didn't know just what they looked like. I touched it close to it's mouth & it opened up quite a large mouth for such a little guy. I petted it's soft silky fur....this guy was quite fat, so he's been eating very well.

I decided to put him down close to the wood pile next to the huge tree in my front yard so he could find safety in a place where Leo couldn't get to him.

This is Leo's second mole chase....only this time his foot got the bad end of the deal.....he's been whining around all night with his sore foot. I looked it all over & couldn't find where the bite was.....but it must bother Leo, otherwise he wouldn't be complaining.

Ah, the thrills of living in the country.....we all love it.
