At the bottom of this page I see a box with:
Posting Rules
...
-----------------
BB code is On
Smilies are On
[IMG] code is On
HTML code is Off
As I understand it,
BB code (which we use here) provides most of the same features as HTML except for ones that might mess up the formatting of a page.
I came here after using HTML for many years. At some other sites that used HTML with older software, a member could start their post with an <i> tag, forget to close the tag, and leave the whole rest of that thread in italics to the annoyance of later readers.
Switching to BB Code wasn't at all hard for me. I find I prefer to write my posts and PMs with one of the text editors, not the WYSIWYG one, because I can see the tags I'm using and have better control. I appreciate the feature where instead of typing out every tag character by character, I can highlight a passage, then apply a matched pair of tags to it just by clicking a button.

edited to add: I understand that in a few places here (forums that accept embedded videos, for instance, and maybe even signatures), HTML code will work or else the software will turn something like a YouTube URL into HTML code (for a video viewer or whatever). I haven't had much practice with these features myself, though.
This is the forum where videos are supposed to be posted -- and I notice that "HTML code is
On" there. Try your video "object" there, Beauty.
