This is very common in other countries btw. I was discussing witnessing this practice in Japan with a friend. She said "oh my husband was very upset when someone built a house on the lot next to us because he couldn't pee off the deck anymore." I was shocked. They had three people living in the house with three bathrooms. Her husband actually had to pass TWO bathrooms to go out the back door to pee off the deck. Why would you pass two bathrooms to pee outside? I just don't get it. My father and brother did not do this. Well, not that I know of.
