yoda, i can sure relate to your bad dream. i've had more recently myself. when we are sleeping our minds have the ability to "open the gates" to our subconscious mind. i "read" fear for your safety and also concern for your son. example re son," he's too young to be on his own. i must protect him" you're not ready for him to leave home,imo. symbolically the snowstorm seems to suggest you have lots of unrecognized upheaval and subconsciously that came to the surface.
idk, cause i'm not a sleep interpreter but that's my interpretation. i hope you can get this life stuff sorted out and have peaceful dreams. 
i know too some meds can cause nightmares.
