I think it depends upon your bent in the spiritual realm. For a Christian, The Holy Bible can be a great source...depending upon whether you are depressed or frustrated or fearful or needing strength, finding who you are etc...will determine which book to read. For needing to feel loved by God begin with the book of John.
For motivation, there are many authors who encourage one to find themselves and their purpose.
For finding your spiritual sense, you can take a survey at belief.net that will help you determine what you believe and where it fits in with organized groups. That would be a good place to begin if you aren't sure what you believe.
