Wise I don't know how old you are but I am almost 49 and until very recently was considering adopting a baby. My kids are grown and gone and if I didn't have these torn disk in my back I think I would go for it. But then again another part of me says I am crazy to think about it. I am still young enough to enjoy whatever life has to offer me. If you do it I say "congrats"! good luck!
