I'm a great admirer of Marsha Linehan who developed dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) - mainly to help suicidal people with borderline personality disorder.

She recently revealed that she is diagnosed with mental illness herself, including being diagnosed with schizophrenia and given thorazine and ECT. Here's an article about her experiences: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/23/he...ives.html?_r=1

Here's a quote from the article:

Quote:
A discharge summary, dated May 31, 1963, noted that “during 26 months of hospitalization, Miss Linehan was, for a considerable part of this time, one of the most disturbed patients in the hospital.”

...

“I was in hell,” she said. “And I made a vow: when I get out, I’m going to come back and get others out of here.”
Reminds me of Pat Deegan who says her survivor mission was to reform the mental health system.
Thanks for this!
