a therapist is like anyone else - fat, skinny, funny, serious, tall, short, black, white, red, green with polka dots...

ok so they arent green with polka dots, some may have that taste in clothing LOL but my point is a therapist is like anyone else. they are human beings like any other person in this world. they come in many different sizes, colors, shapes and type of person they are just like you are not identical to your parents, your neighbors friends. therapists are like just the average person who happen to have chosen helping people as their career choice.

their career choice happens to be that of helping people feel better about their life, and their self. help people to better cope with their problems.

what do you say to a therapist- that depends on why you are seeing the therapist. if you are going because you are having trouble with work related problems you talk about your job and the problems you are having in your work, if you are going because you are depressed you talk about why you are depressed, if you are seeing a therapist because you want to learn how to better take care of yourself you talk about that...

there is no right or wrong way to do therapy. you go and talk about what ever is the reason you go.

right now my therapist and I are discussing my case load, the fact that its almost time for me to take my boards from my license so that I will have LCSW credentials instead of a CSW, family issues, upcoming vacation issues, issues related to my mental disorders, ... all kinds of things that I feel need some "shoring up and taking care of"

Just go and talk about what ever reason you have decided to go to therapy for.
