Dizziness is exactly what vertigo causes, but if you are having dizziness while standing mostly, this may be due to what they call "Orthostatic hypotention/hypertention". This is the inability to counter the affects of gravity on your heart. (ie. your blood pressure probably drops) This has also been know to be diagnosed as "Autonomic neuropathy". I would see a neurologist or a cardiologist as soon as I could. This can also be caused by a blood clot(which is life threatening)
