It has only helped me when I tried it and was depressed- not manic. It helped me a few nights get motivated and do work that needed to be done. It has also helped me a bit when I was super anxious. I first tried it because I had awful, awful pains and nausea with my period to the point I couldn't walk and could hardly keep down water. I needed something to help me sleep and was on hardcore pain meds that simply were not working. It did help with that A LOT. I finally got surgery to fix the pain, so I don't use it anymore.
However, when I am on meds, it doesn't do a thing for me regardless of whether the meds are working.
