Do you have any background regarding Demerol? My doctors "insist" I am NOT addicted, and I agree. I rarely run out of the medicine, and can obtain the next prescription "at leisure". I never go ape worrying about not having enough, nor do I seek any more. I currently take 25 mg every 3-4 hours, depending upon the pain. [ Which I think I should take according to the clock, not when I finally realize I am competing with the increased pain.]

I have, a few times, gone totally off it... for days, and weeks... to "test" myself to see if I am addicted... not.

I take it for chronic pain, and believe it is working quite well for me. Due to my allergies to so many categories of meds, including most all generics ( we believe it might just be the fillers?) it was long time trials to find one that helps. I do not get any "high" no matter if I need to increase the dose due to increased pain.

But also, after that pain flare (often 2 weeks) I lower the dose back down. When I went off it completely, the pain only increased due to my injury... not flared due to any "rebound" effect... and the pain maintained itself on it's own for the duration of the "fast."

Why do so many doctors have phobias about narcotics? And, even if I were "addicted".. what's their point? I have chronic pain, that is not going away for the rest of my life.... I had to go the first 8 years of injury without any med help due to DOCTORS feeling better with my going without!
I have chronic neuropathic myofascial pain, myelopathy, components of fibromyalgia, migraines, also opthomalgic migraines, menieres, TMD (two surgeries) etc etc due to 1/2 ton of water on a roof shelter collapsing upon me and knocking me unconscious 17 years ago.

...I can misspeak like the best of us
