It does seem rather unkind. I mean if it were me, I would definitely understand. For one, you have never met this guy who you talk to online and you don't really know him. I mean we never know the people who are online. We may think we do, but can easily be duped. You know your mate IRL and it is understandable that you would want to go to his aid. I know I would.

The reaction that the MSN guy had was pretty extreme IMO. He could've just told you he was hurt that you had to go so soon or so quickly. He didn't have to put a guilt trip on you. I found that quite rude.
