wait - I thought you guys broke up? If your relationship is as rocky as you've described, is this really a good time to try to get pregnant?

But to answer your question, I wouldn't wait more than 3 months. It'll cause stress in your relationship if you wait much longer than that to find out what's going on and to make sure you're going about it the right way. Not sure how your ob-gyn could tell that you were about to ovulate, but even if all of the conditions are right and you are at your peak fertility, I understand there is still only a 25% chance that it'll "stick".

I've been using two methods to assess my fertility -- the basal body temperature (BBT) charting method and using the Clearblue Easy Ovulation Monitor. There are other methods such as monitoring the consistency of your cervical fluid, but neither that nor the BBT charting method work well for me, for various reasons, one being that my cycles aren't consistent.

You can chart your fertility cycles using free software at http://www.fertilityfriend.com

But I question whether it is a smart idea to try to conceive in your situation, I have to say. You've mentioned more than a few times that you can't support yourself without your bf, and you'd be up the creek if you also had to support a child on your own.
