I started to. Originally, the therapist said she would give me a referral, but she never did. I contacted someone through the employee assistance program where I work, and they recommended a specific person, and gave me their name and number, sent the place my EAP info, and said I needed to call and setup the appointment. When I called them up, the receptionist said the person recommended was on vacation, and that they had other people working for them that could take me sooner. I said no, and never called them back. I called the EAP people back and told them to cancel this whole referral thing. It's all sort of twisted. Given what had happened with the wife, the feelings I was having for the original therapist, and a whole lot of other things I was having to deal with at work, I could have used someone to talk to... but it just wasn't worth the trouble. I really got tired of hearing the EAP person say "all our conversations are confidential"... and "are you safe"... standard ******** questions I suppose.
All of this as a result of telling my wife... therefore, my opinion on this subject is keep everything to yourself. As soon as you get other family members involved in what you believe to be your personal therapy, the whole thing starts spinning out of control.
