I think DBT is great. I tend to like cognitive behavioral approaches. DBT is very much skills based. Learn the skills and apply them.

I'm trying to get my son to try it. We've started with the mindfulness skills and with distract skills which is part of the distress tolerance module. It's just the two of us, though, and I'm not an expert. One of the cool things about DBT is the team aspect. You have people you can call on to coach you through using the skills in real life situations.

Anyway I adore Marsha Linehan - you can find videos of her on youtube - and I had no idea she had her own history of significant mental distress.
